Claire, our tester, was impressed by the packaging. It was easy to open and clean. She found it to be one of the most simple and quick pieces of baby equipment to put together. She tested it on some rough terrain and was impressed with its performance.

Seats

Most 3 wheel tandem stroller wheel double buggies start as single pushchairs. However, some can be converted to accommodate the second seat using adapters. Certain models let you add an additional board for older kids who are ready to walk but require a little help.

For a lightweight 3 wheel stroller option that's great for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to maneuver, and it has a large basket that is full of storage. It can accommodate twins from at birth and accepts two car seats, or a carrycot with seat. However, the seats need to face forwards and there's not enough space for a shopping bag underneath, so you'll need a sidepack to do this.

If you're looking to travel off-road and off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good option. It's a side-byside model with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. It's much easier to get through narrow doors on public transport, and to climb over and over kerbs. It also has a handbrake on the handlebar that can be adjusted for more security and safety.

It has 30 different seating configurations, a built-in board for older children who like to walk, and a 'cinema' mode which raises the back seats to provide better visibility.

The phil&teds dot is a great single buggy from the beginning which is then able to take 2 (or 3!) in multiple configurations. This is especially useful for parents with children in a car seat, as the frame can be fitted with a wedgie for optimum lying flat, or car seat adapters to a wider range of brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a double 3 wheel buggy will determine how easily your child/children and you can push it. It is crucial to have a smooth ride, as babies can feel every bump that comes along the road. This is especially relevant if you drive on rough terrain such as grass or roads that aren't paved. Some models have front tires that lock to aid in maneuvering and navigating obstacles like curbs.

Certain models come with air-filled tyres which are ideal for all-terrain riding, however they can be prone punctures. Make sure you keep an extra set of tyres inside the trunk. Some models have gel-filled or foam-filled tyres that are designed to cushion bumps. They are less likely to puncture, however they may be uncomfortable for your child should you decide to jog.

Folding

A three-wheel double buggy can be folded up neatly for storage. There are models that fold flat, stand up (as though they were in the form of a pushchair) and others that open to reveal a more umbrella-style folding with a hand-operated break. In general, the more wheels a buggy has, the easier it will be to maneuver over rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are bigger than the average size. You will have more stability and it will be less likely that you need to flip or tip your child.

The most popular model is the iCandy Wave, which can be used from birth with an infant car seat, and transforms into a side-by-side double buggy once your child is old enough for them to be seated next to each one. It's a lightweight option which makes it easy to push and is packed with extra features, including a bumper bar and raincover.

Another alternative is the phil&teds sport, which is future proof because it's a fantastic single buggy right from the start and then adjusts to take two (or even 3!) in its small footprint. It has an innovative three-wheel design that includes a sling for better manoeuvrability and stability.

If you're looking to jog with your kids this is the ideal double buggies to jog with as it has a lockable swivel front wheel that helps you remain in control when you're tackling off-road or hilly tracks. It features a big undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and soft suspension to provide an enjoyable ride.

It's a lightweight and compact model that can be folded with one hand and is ideal for travel. It's compatible with a wide range of infant car seats, and comes with an undercarriage basket that can be pulled out that can be used to store things to shop. It's on the expensive side, but it does have some standout features that make it a good price, including its simple one-click fold, and lots of extras, such as a bumper bar and raincover.

Storage

The frame's clever design expands widthways to accommodate a second seat, but it only weighs around 11kg so it's easy to lift and maneuver. It can be used with an infant car seat, a carrycot, or both. This allows you to have the best of both worlds.
