Whether you're looking for a buggy run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight spaces.

For a smooth ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. However, they are susceptible to punctures so be prepared with a repair kit.

Sturdy frame

Figures have just been released that show that the three-wheeled vehicle - a symbol of the noughties of more money than wisdom is on the verge of disappearing. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider variety of terrain, while also looking stylish and easy to push.

The basic rule is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with rough ground and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front enable you to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or in difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 year old and found it was able to handle cobbles, grass rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. She said that it felt solid to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. The tyres, that are inflated and require to be pumped up occasionally and have a suspension built-in. This was extremely comfortable for my kids.

The size and shape of the seat is a further factor to consider. It should be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also need it to recline to allow them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer an option to lie flat completely while others allow a parent facing one.

An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is ideal for a single child starting from birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers up to age four and includes a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and large cushioned seat. Storage options are also good with a large storage basket with zip pockets on the hood and a handy pouch at the rear of seat unit.

Wheels with a greater diameter

Larger wheels mean your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain - perfect for buggies designed for off-road use. They also make it easier to manoeuvre the pushchair through narrow spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies come with rotating wheels at the front to aid in maneuvering around tight corners. Others are designed for running and have fixed wheels that lock to provide increased speed and stability. This is also helpful if you bump into an unintentional tree root or road, as the front wheel can be lifted up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

Many 3 wheel running stroller wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres, which means they can handle a variety of terrains and are more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. They are more prone to punctures, so you will need to have a repair kit and spare inner tube on hand.

Some of our favourite 3 wheel parent facing pushchair-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which she claims "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily climb or descend kerbs. They also have a suspension system which, in her words "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite wide, and they may be a challenge to fit into narrow spaces. This is a problem when you're using it for a jogger or you need to to get through doors that are narrow when out and out and about. Fortunately, the majority of models come with small folding options that let you remove the front wheels to make compact storage.

Easy to maneuver

One of the major advantages to a three wheel buggies-wheeled buggy is that it is much easier to maneuver particularly with a child on the way. The way they are constructed means that the front wheels spin at a whim and are really maneuverable and are ideal for tricky terrain such as parks, cobbles and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler, and she wrote: "The Terrain is a pleasure to drive on rough terrain. The swivel wheel in the front was particularly helpful." I was also impressed with how well it coped with kerbs, especially when using the brake operated by hand. I found it extremely stable when going downhill or on uneven ground."

This is something you need to keep in mind when you live in one of the cities. If this is a problem, a 4-wheel buggy might be a better choice for you.
